Pashinski, Flynn welcome multiple grants totaling $1.6 million for five local projects

HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, in conjunction with state Sen. Marty Flynn, said $1.6 million in state grants were awarded today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to advance multiple projects in Luzerne County.

“Community improvement grants will always hold a high level of importance to me when it comes to acquiring funding for our community,” said Pashinski. “I must thank Sen. Flynn for his work in helping secure this funding that will not only make improvements to our stormwater infrastructure but will also fund the arts here in Luzerne County.”

“These grants mark a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to the welfare of our communities,” said Flynn. The funding secured will not only address immediate concerns but also contribute to the long-term sustainability and resilience of our infrastructure.”

The grants:

  • $481,812 to Plains Township – for stormwater improvements along Delaware Street and Hudson Garden.
  • $340,000 to the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority – to retrofit a stormwater basin near the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre.
  • $208,207 to Wilkes-Barre Township – for the addition of two storm water inlets and the replacement of storm pipes in three affected locations.
  • $20,036 to the Philharmonic Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania – COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program funds to offset lost revenue for the orchestra.
  • $10,652 to the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society – COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program for operating costs for the history museum or historical site.

Funds distributed through the H2O PA Program provide for single-year or multi-year grants to municipalities or municipal authorities to assist with the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm water projects. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $205.4 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the H2O PA – Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects Program.

Funds distributed through the Small Water and Sewer Program provide for small water, sewer and storm system water infrastructure projects. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $105.6 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the PA Small Water and Sewer Program.

Funds distributed through the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program provide grants to nonprofit arts and culture organizations located in the commonwealth. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $15 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program.
