Samuelson announces nearly $249K in arts grants

Another $393K will benefit Bethlehem sewer project

HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – State Rep. Steve Samuelson announced $248,827 in state grants were awarded today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for Bethlehem arts organizations.

“These amazing organizations do great work that is enjoyed by people throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond. The arts community faces ongoing funding challenges, and these dollars will go a long way toward supporting the arts and being able to provide the programs that are enjoyed by young and old alike,” Samuelson said.

“I would like to thank the CFA board and my legislative colleagues who all recognize the value the arts play in people’s lives.”

Samuelson said PA Arts and Culture grants were awarded to support operating and marketing costs for the following organizations:

  • ArtsQuest -- $95,000.
  • Historic Bethlehem Partnership Inc. -- $47,723.
  • National Museum of Industrial History -- $32,638.
  • Pennsylvania Youth Theatre -- $21,649.
  • Touchstone Theatre -- $21,448.
  • Friends of Levitt Pavilion @ SteelStacks -- $16,326.
  • Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley Inc. -- $14,043.

Funds distributed through the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program provide grants to nonprofit arts and culture organizations located in the commonwealth. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $15 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

Samuelson said he was also pleased to see a $393,750 Small Water and Sewer Program grant was awarded to Bethlehem City to rehabilitate the Applebutter Road Sanitary Sewer Lift.

“While this funding may not be as visible as the arts programs, it is important so the city is able to complete important upgrades to its sanitary sewer system, which benefits all residents,” Samuelson said.

Funds distributed through the Small Water and Sewer program provide for small water, sewer, and storm system water infrastructure projects. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $105.6 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the PA Small Water and Sewer Program.
