Sen. Nick Miller, Rep. Steve Samuelson announce $1.6M state grant for Hanover Township Storm Sewer Extension Project

HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – Sen. Nick Miller (D-Lehigh/Northampton) and Rep. Steve Samuelson (D-Northampton) jointly announced today that more than $1.6 million in state funding has been secured for the?Chaucer Lane and Lord Byron Drive Storm Sewer Extension Project in Hanover Township, Northampton County.
The grant funding comes via the COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act H2O PA-Water Supply, Sanitary, Sewer and Storm Water Projects, and was approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
“The sewer extension project in Hanover Township is much-needed update that will benefit so many residents in the area,” said Miller. “It will improve some of the flooding issues this area struggles with when we have heavy rains. We will continue to advocate for funding to improve the safety and well-being of our community members.”?
“We worked closely with Hanover Township officials for several months to secure this state funding, and we are thankful that the Department of Community and Economic Development recognized the crucial need to extend the storm sewer system to address storm water issues that have been a problem for residents in the vicinity of Stoke Park Road, Chaucer Lane and Lord Byron Drive for years,” said Samuelson.
The H2O PA Act was enacted by the legislature in the summer of 2008. The act enables municipalities or municipal authorities to apply for grants for drinking water, sanitary, sewer and storm water projects. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $205.4 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds to the H2O PA.?The projects must be completed by September 2026.
