HARRISBURG, March 19 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today adopted a resolution recognizing March 18 as National Transit Worker Appreciation Day in Pennsylvania, according to author House Transportation Committee Chair Rep. Ed Neilson.
“Our 16,800 transit workers do more than just provide transportation; they play a huge role in our state’s economic development. Without them, many Pennsylvanians would be unable to get to school, work or even their medical appointments.
“They provide an invaluable service to our commonwealth, and they deserve to be recognized today and every day,” said Neilson, D-Phila.
According to H.R. 121, nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians throughout all 67 counties rely on some form of public transportation each day. Every year, Pennsylvania's public transit workers such as bus and train operators, shared-ride drivers and maintenance workers facilitate more than 237 million trips.
