Rep. Kyle Mullins January 28, 2025 | 4:13 PM
HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, today announced grant funding of $351,725 for outdoor recreation and flood-mitigation projects in the 112th Legislative District.
"Area residents deserve every possible dollar and initiative that will improve safety and expand outdoor opportunities in our region,” said Mullins. “From protecting neighborhoods in a floodplain to enhancing our trails and athletic fields, these grants are intended to improve the quality of life in our communities. I’m truly thankful for the help of state Sens. Marty Flynn and Rosemary Brown who joined me in advocating for these grants.”
This funding includes:
$132,725.50 of Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds for renovations to the second softball field in the Sherwood Park Complex in Dunmore. The project will replace the current lighting system with a more reliable and cost-effective system. This new LED system will allow for a safer playing environment because of the cleaner, brighter light.
$129,000 of Flood Mitigation Program funds to upgrade a freeboard deficient concrete levee on the Lackawanna River. Mayfield Borough plans to stabilize and increase the height of the levee by several feet. The levy improvement will eliminate the risk of future flooding from 100/500 storm events. The levee is approximately 1.7 miles long and impacts 53% of borough residents and 271 structures.
$90,000 of Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds for the 2025 Condella Park Trail Project. This funding will replace an existing walking path around the park and to repair stormwater issues. The walking trail surface will be removed and replaced with a 5-foot wide asphalt trail and subbased shoulders. The walking trail addition will comply with ADA requirements, allowing more people to enjoy the park and trail.
