Merski measure to help retirees with vehicle registration fees goes into effect

HARRISBURG, Dec. 18 – State Rep. Bob Merski, D-Erie, said he is pleased to announce that a new state law that includes significant changes brought about by legislation he championed (H.B.250), has gone into effect. His legislation, incorporated into Act 60 of 2024, raises the annual income threshold for retired PA residents to qualify for a reduced vehicle registration fee of $11.

Previously, the income threshold was set at $19,200. As of Dec. 16, the threshold has increased to $29,906, with future adjustments subject to the annual Consumer Price Index. Matzie said the change will allow more retired individuals to benefit from reduced registration fees, providing much-needed financial relief.

“Raising the income threshold through the implementation of Act 60 is a significant step in supporting our retired community members,” Merski said. “By allowing more retirees to benefit from a reduced vehicle registration fee, we are easing their financial burden and helping them manage their expenses more effectively.

“This change underscores our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for our senior citizens and ensuring they receive the support they need and deserve.”
