The Delaware County Health Department is holding a Back-to-School Fair on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Delaware County Wellness Center in Yeadon. Get ready for your child's upcoming school year with vaccines, haircuts, school supplies and more. 

Registration is required for backpacks and immunizations and can be done here.

One-time extra LIHEAP payment available

The state Department of Human Services is offering some extra help for recipients of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, this summer.

Supplemental payments of $100 will be issued for households that received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include a family member who is 60 or older or a child who is under 6.

Eligible households will see the supplemental payment distributed directly to their utility provider to be used for an outstanding heating or current energy bill.

Changes to SEPTA bus routes are coming

SEPTA will begin rolling out its New Bus Network updates on Sunday, Aug. 23. The new bus routes are built around today’s travel patterns to provide more frequent service, simpler routes, better connections, and improved reliability. These changes will improve service in our community, including more frequent service of the Route 46 bus.

There will also be a change to the Route 52 bus, see below.

Protecting your SNAP benefits

In 2024, more than $15 million in SNAP benefits were stolen in PA through card skimming!  And when benefits are stolen, there is no reimbursement process to get those funds back.

We’re fixing that.

Beginning next year, Pennsylvania will transition to new chip-enabled EBT cards. These new cards will be mailed directly to households and will help protect your SNAP benefits from being skimmed and stolen.

Until your new card arrives, secure your card by locking it when it is not in use and avoiding short, easy-to-guess PINs. For other information about securing your EBT card, visit the PA Inspector General’s website.
