I'd like to start this week with some exciting news from Harrisburg. Today, the House voted to advance my House Bill 2550, which would establish a Small Business Health Care Premiums Contribution Tax Credit.

Anyone who spends time in the district knows that small businesses are part of what makes communities special. From the business districts in Mt. Lebanon, Dormont, and Castle Shannon to the local employers serving families in Baldwin Township and Upper St. Clair, small businesses help drive our economy, enrich our lives, and give our communities their unique and distinctive character.
I introduced this bill to help protect our small business community and address the growing challenge of healthcare affordability. Since enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies expired at the end of last year, we've seen a dramatic increase in the number of Pennsylvanians losing or dropping their health coverage because they simply can't afford it.
Small businesses across the Commonwealth have felt that impact as well. Many can no longer afford to contribute toward employee health insurance the way they once could, making it harder to attract and retain workers and harder to stay competitive. My bill would help address that challenge by providing a tax credit for small businesses that contribute toward their employees' health insurance premiums through PENNIE.
This bill isn't a cure-all, but it is an important and practical step that can help small businesses stay competitive, support their employees, and make healthcare more affordable for working families.
I'm grateful to my co-prime sponsors, Rep. Arvind Venkat and Rep. Steve Samuelson, and to my colleagues in the House for supporting this legislation. I hope the Senate will give it serious consideration, because helping small businesses and working families should be something we can all agree on.

Baldwin Township neighbors – I hope you’ll stop by summer pop-up office hours tomorrow from 4-6 p.m. at Armstrong Park!
These pop-up events are an opportunity to bring my office to you. Whether you need help with a Senior ConnectCard application, veterans services, PennDOT issues, birth or death certificate requests, or another state-related matter, my office is here to help.

We had a great turnout as we kicked off our summer pop-up series last week at Castle Shannon Library. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to ask questions, share concerns, and learn more about the services available through my office. Another thanks to the terrific staff at Castle Shannon Library, who also offered assistance and support.
We’ll continue bringing pop-up office hours directly into communities throughout the summer, so keep watch in future newsletters for announcements! I look forward to seeing many more of you in person this summer!

Pittsburgh Public Schools Administrator Bill
Advances Through Committee
|
On Tuesday, my House Bill 2455 to give administrators at Pittsburgh Public Schools the right to collectively bargain advanced from the House Labor and Industry Committee.
With Pittsburgh Public Schools encompassing 56 campuses and more than 20,000 students, we need to strengthen the ability of principals, vice principals and other administrators to advocate for their schools. Putting our support behind strong administration means a better environment for all students, and I hope the House continues to rally behind PPS.

Digital Advertising Tax Advances Through House
|
On Tuesday, the House passed Digital Advertising Tax legislation, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania that would bring in millions in revenue if implemented.
House Bill 1678 would update the Commonwealth’s existing gross receipts tax to include the sale of digital advertisements, which have been increasingly dominated by the wealthiest of Big Tech companies. This bill specifically requires multinational corporations to pay their fair share, without raising taxes on consumers, small businesses and other retailers paying to promote their product.
Updating the gross receipts tax to include digital advertising could raise $500 million in annual revenue for the state and would go toward property tax relief for seniors. This is a no-brainer for our Commonwealth, all while taking a statement on the companies dominating our digital spaces, and I was happy to co-sponsor this bill.

This past week, I joined community members and local leaders at two events focused on building safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities.
With June 5 marking National Gun Violence Awareness Day, I was proud to stand alongside Senator Costa, Mayor O'Connor, Moms Demand Action, CeaseFirePA, and other community advocates to highlight the need for greater investment in community violence intervention programs and common-sense gun safety measures that help keep our communities safe.
On Sunday, I joined thousands of participants and supporters at the Pittsburgh Pride Parade for a powerful celebration of the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. It was a joyful reminder of how far we've come and the importance of continuing to work toward equality and inclusion for all of our neighbors across the Commonwealth.
