Mayes: $336,000 awarded for new traffic light in North Oakland

PennDOT grant funds new traffic signal at Centre Ave. and North Dithridge St. intersection

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 27 – State Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes announced today a state grant of $335,982 has been awarded to construct a new traffic light in North Oakland.

“I’m thrilled we were able to secure these tax dollars to improve traffic safety in North Oakland,” said Mayes, D-Allegheny. “I’m proud to have worked alongside Senator Jay Costa to bring home the funding for this new traffic light. Not only will it make our streets safer for pedestrians, but it will also improve overall traffic flow in the area.”

Mayes said the new signal will be installed at the intersection of Centre Avenue and North Dithridge Street, near the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon campuses.

The local grant is one of 31 across the state that were announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation through the Automated Red-Light Enforcement program. Projects were selected by an eight-member committee based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact.
