Malagari & Collett: $32,400 secured for Lansdale to restore Neshaminy Basin Streambank

LANSDALE, Jan. 28 – A new grant of $32,400 will support Lansdale Borough in its project to restore and stabilize the Neshaminy Basin Streambank, state Rep. Steve Malagari and state Sen. Maria Collett announced today.

Awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails, & Recreation Program, the grant will help fund the borough’s project to implement runoff control for Neshaminy Creek and keep it clear of flood water and contamination from debris during storms. It will also provide flood protection to the borough’s wastewater treatment plant.

“The state Department of Environmental Protection was key in helping Lansdale Borough develop this plan to stabilize the section of the creek marked for restoration,” Malagari said. “It’s always satisfying to see state and local governments work together to keep shared outdoor spaces and our water supply safe and in good shape for us to enjoy.”

“Investing in our local rivers and streams strengthens our communities and makes good economic sense for Pennsylvania,” Collett said. “I’m proud to have worked alongside Representative Malagari and Lansdale Borough to secure this funding, and I will continue to support efforts to protect and develop our natural resources.”

Malagari said the project consists of regrading the streambanks to control erosion using vegetated coir logs and landscape vegetation, and planting additional landscaping to create a riparian buffer along the banks.
