Daley, Sinai applaud Shapiro administration grants for Ida recovery

HARRISBURG, March 31 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley today applauded the Shapiro administration for funding recovery efforts in Montgomery County disaster areas impacted by Hurricane Ida in 2021.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development approved $18,633,011 in disaster recovery grants to help 16 projects in southeast Pennsylvania with housing rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements. Among them are:
- $1,121,200 to Lower Merion Township for stormwater repairs and mitigation improvements.
- $300,000 for Lafayette Road culvert repair.
- $80,000 for bridge repairs at Grenox Road.
- $60,000 for bridge repairs at Bryn Mawr Avenue.
- $50,000 for bridge repairs at Beech Road (South).
- $30,000 for bridge repairs at Rosyln Lane.
- $30,000 for bridge repairs at Morris Road.
- $30,000 for bridge repairs at Wyngate Road.
- $1,000,000 for River Road culvert improvements.
“Congratulations to Lower Merion Township for securing state funding that will help maintain the quality of life in our community,” said Daley. D-Montgomery. “Any time we direct state funding toward local improvement, it helps critical projects get completed and it saves on local costs. Lower Merion Township’s work on this grant reflects the commitment to excellence that our commissioners and staff consistently exhibit.”
“This generous $1,121,200 Disaster Recovery grant will help Lower Merion Township complete a number of essential stormwater infrastructure improvements and bridge repairs that, in total, will cost an estimated $1.6 million,” said Lower Merion Board of Commissioners President Todd Sinai. “The need for these projects was made evident by the impacts of Hurricane Ida, and we greatly appreciate the support from Governor Shapiro’s administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
“We also thank our legislative delegation, including Senator Amanda Cappelletti, Representative Mary Jo Daley and Representative Tim Briggs, for their support for the grant application, as well as township staff for their excellent work preparing the submission. These projects will make Lower Merion Township an even better and more resilient place to live, work and visit,” Sinai said.
Also included in the funding is:
- $9,162,521 to the Montgomery County Office of Housing and Community Development.
- $3,635,000 for housing rehabilitation projects.
- $3,635,00 for new multi-family rental construction to replace lost units due to Hurricane Ida.
- $299,840 for evaluation and improvements to Cheltenham Euston Road.
- $817,563 for the construction of Bridgeport Front Street Park.
- $448,225 for Green Lane Sewer Treatment Plant improvements.
- $267,283 for Green Lane-Main Street flood drain improvements.
- $59,610 for a flood mitigation project in Upper Providence Township.
