HARRISBURG, Jan. 7 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley was sworn into the Pennsylvania House of Representatives today, beginning her seventh term serving the 148th Legislative District in Montgomery County.
Daley said that she will continue representing the interests of her fellow Pennsylvanians, especially those of women, as she seeks to build on her experience last session as Women’s Health Caucus co-chair. She also will reassume duties as chair of the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee.
“There will undoubtedly be a lot of hard work facing Pennsylvania’s General Assembly these next two years,” said Daley, D-Montgomery. “For my part, I especially anticipate the important work that still needs done to fully secure a woman’s right to choose abortion care in Pennsylvania. While abortions are still safe and legal in Pennsylvania due to a constitutional prohibition against denial or abridgment of equality of rights because of sex, there is still work to be done to overturn laws that create unnecessary barriers to accessible reproductive rights.
“With respect to my work in the Tourism Committee, I look forward to continuing expanding Pennsylvania’s reach as the great American getaway, along with Gov. Josh Shapiro and his administration. Dollars that come from tourism go a great distance in financing improvements to all of the commonwealth’s cultural and geographical destinations, as well as our natural resources.”
The Pennsylvania General Assembly is currently in its 209th consecutive legislative session, which began today and will run through Nov. 30, 2026.
The oath of office was administered by Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Debra Todd, and the invocation was given by Bishop Maureen L. Davis, who is pastor of the Open Door Mission True Light Church, located in Philadelphia.
The 148th Legislative District includes parts of Montgomery County consisting of Lower Merion Township, Narberth Borough and Whitemarsh Township.
