Daley announces multiple state grant awards for critical projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 – Today, state Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, announced the award of several high-profile state grants for local projects that will benefit residents of the 148th Legislative District.

One grant originated from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, which was created to provide grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

  • Lower Merion School District, Bala Cynwyd Middle School Roof Replacement Project, $500,000.
    • This project will replace the 83,979 square foot roof, including cold asphalt installation, TPA heat welded cap sheet, masonry repairs, metal coping, hips, and ridges, and drainage improvements. A portion of the roof is metal, and only requires some restoration to extend the life of that section. The existing roof is approximately 25 years old, is experiencing leaks and has outlived its useful life.  These improvements will provide a safe educational environment for students, free of mold concerns and slip risks. PSFIG funds will be used for renovation costs.

The other grant originated from the Statewide Local Share Account, which is funded via the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Whitemarsh Township, Whitemarsh Township Stormwater Rehabilitation Project, $929,294.
    • Whitemarsh Township is seeking to restore roughly 4,000 linear feet of storm sewer pipe using CIPP lining. Several sections are in serious states of disrepair or near-collapse, and relining was found to be the most cost-effective method of keeping these storm lines in service. The project will take place along Oakwyn Road, Cedar Drive, Pine Ridge Drive, Wildflower Drive, and Laurel Drive.

"State-level funding plays a key role in driving local development by allowing communities to expand and enhance services without directly increasing the financial burden on taxpayers," Daley said. "By investing in critical areas like infrastructure and public services, states promote growth while keeping local taxes under control. Congratulations to the funding recipients – your dedication is a true asset to our community."
