Delco lawmakers announce $200,000 school-to-work grant for Chester Upland SD

HARRISBURG, March 28 – Chester-Upland School District today was awarded $200,000 in state grant funding for its Exit 6 Pre-Apprenticeship Training Academy, according to state Reps. Carol Kazeem and Leanne Krueger, both D-Delaware, who represent residents who live in the school district.
The money comes from the state’s Schools-to-Work Program, a competitive grant program available to help establish or enhance a workforce development partnership between schools, employers, organizations or associations to create employment and training pathways.
“The Chester-Upland School District is working hard to prepare students with the essential skills and experiences they need for a smooth transition from the classroom into the workforce,” Krueger said. “The Exit 6 Pre-Apprenticeship Training Academy and programs like it help bridge the gap between education and employment, benefiting students, the industries they’ll enter and our economy alike. Congratulations to the educators and administrators who are working hard to win competitive state grants like this.”
“Creating a seamless transition from school to work is key for students, both personally and professionally,” Kazeem said. “By equipping our students with practical skills and real-world experience, we empower them to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of the job market, while also strengthening our local economy and communities."
More than $3.3 million in funding was awarded by the state Department of Labor and Industry in this round of grant funding. The maximum grant amount available was $250,000.
