Rep. Leanne Krueger March 15, 2024 | 2:49 PM
HARRISBURG, March 15 – State Reps. Carol Kazeem and Leanne Krueger, both D-Delaware, today announced that Chester-Upland School District has been awarded more than $1,83 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to establish safe, healthy and supportive learning environments in its schools.
According to the lawmakers, who represent families with children attending the school district, the grant comes from the federal Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, Stronger Connections Grant program. The school district will use the funding to promote the social, emotional, physical and mental well-being of students and staff; address family and community engagement; and promote equitable and inclusive policies and practices.
“School districts across the state are continuously working to update their policies and strategies to create safer environments in their schools, but they often need more resources to provide the strongest and safest learning environments possible for their students and staff,” Krueger said. “Each year in the state budget, I fight for funding to help our schools get what they need to implement the programs they envision. I am pleased to see a high-need school district like Chester-Upland receive this critical funding.”
Kazeem emphasized the efforts that were made to secure this funding for the district.
“One of my greatest priorities has always been the well-being and success of our youth,” Kazeem said. “I'm thrilled to announce that we've secured $1.8 million in funding for the Chester Upland School District. It has been my privilege to work tirelessly alongside the dedicated schools to secure this funding. Our collective effort will create safe, healthy environments where our kids can thrive and reach their full potential. Together, we are building a brighter future for our community—one that prioritizes the safety and prosperity of our youth.”
More than $39 million in BSCA Stronger Connections Grant funding was awarded to 39 school entities in 21 counties across the state. The list of all awardees can be found on the PDE website.
