FOLSOM, Jan. 7 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced that Schoolhouse Senior Center will be awarded a nearly $5,000 grant to support its work helping local seniors.
The grant was part of $2 million awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to be distributed equally among the 405 Area Agency on Aging-affiliated Senior Community Centers throughout the commonwealth. The grants are typically competitive, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the department instead distributed the funding to the 52 Area Agencies on Aging to allocate among all eligible centers.
“I’m pleased to support Schoolhouse Senior Center, which offers incredible services to older adults in our community,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “During this pandemic, the center has worked hard and been creative to help local seniors stay active, healthy and connected. I’m grateful for the center’s work and happy to see this funding support it.”
Schoolhouse Senior Center will receive funding through the allocation to the Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging.
Senior centers can use the funding through June 30, 2022 on a variety of projects to meet the needs of the center and participants during the pandemic, according to the Department of Aging.
