As we are preparing for another busy week ahead, I want to thank everyone who came out last Thursday for my Senior Expo in Brookhaven. This is always one of my favorite events, and my team works incredibly hard to make it a success. It was great to see so many people connecting with our wonderful vendors, learning about available resources and helping us celebrate some very special milestone birthdays!

I also want to remind you about two events coming up this week. On Thursday, September 24, I’m holding a Clean Slate Expungement Clinic from 6 PM – 8 PM at the Brookhaven Municipal Center. Reservations are required for this free event, so be sure to call or email my office to reserve your spot. Then, on Saturday, September 26, I’ll be holding my free Shredding & Drug Take Back Event at Northly Middle School in Aston from 9 AM – noon, where you can safely dispose of unwanted documents and medications.

Call To Action: Tell the Senate to deliver real tax relief for seniors

Anytime you’re online, we see digital ads - whether scrolling through social media, watching videos or simply browsing the internet. But Pennsylvania’s tax laws haven’t kept pace with our changing digital economy. Big Tech companies are making millions selling these ads and keeping every penny to reward shareholders.

That’s why I voted for HB 1678, which would create a Digital Ad Tax on large technology companies and use that revenue to provide property tax relief for older Pennsylvanians.

The bill passed the House in June, with bipartisan support and is now awaiting action in the Senate. This is an opportunity to modernize our tax code while providing meaningful relief to seniors, many of whom are living on fixed incomes and feeling the impact of rising costs.

I’m asking the Senate to take up HB 1678 and help deliver real property tax relief for Pennsylvania seniors. Add your voice and act today!

Southeast Delegation Legislative Breakfast

Last Wednesday, I joined members of IBEW Locals 614 and 654 for their legislative breakfast. As a strong supporter of union jobs and working families, I always appreciate the opportunity to sit down with workers, hear directly from them about the work they do and discuss the issues affecting their jobs, families and our economy.

Calling all future leaders

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program is accepting applications for the Spring 2027 semester. Applications are due on October 1.

The Fellowship Program is based in Pennsylvania’s magnificent Capitol Building in Harrisburg. Fellows are assigned to work in House Committees or House Leadership offices, are compensated for their work (which may also include college credit), and are provided opportunities to draft and present their own legislation, attend meet-and-greets with various public officials and staff, and tour some of the Commonwealth’s historic public spaces, to name a few.

Qualified applicants will be:

College undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or law school students;
Enrolled in a Pennsylvania college/university, or a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution; and
Pursuing any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Surrey Senior Services celebrates new Middletown location

Last week, I was happy to join my colleague Rep. Lisa Borowski for the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating Surrey Senior Services’ new location in Middletown Township.

This new center is a wonderful addition to the community and will provide another welcoming space for older adults to connect, stay active and access programs and resources.

It was great to tour the new space, meet some of the staff and celebrate this exciting new chapter for Surrey.

Celebrating our seniors in Brookhaven

Last Thursday, I held my annual Senior Expo in Brookhaven, one of my favorite events we put on each year!

Attendees had the opportunity to connect with a variety of community organizations and learn about state, federal and local programs and resources available to them. Seniors could also apply for or renew their SEPTA Senior Key Cards, receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines, get free blood pressure screenings and even enjoy a relaxing hand massage.

One of my favorite parts of the day is always recognizing our seniors celebrating milestone birthdays. We had a very lively group this year, and it was so much fun celebrating with them!

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us, and a special thank you to all of our amazing vendors who shared valuable resources and generously donated prizes.

Expanding health care access in Delaware County

Last week, I joined fellow elected officials and health care leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the newly opened Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic location in Springfield.

This new facility offers primary care services, along with general, breast and vascular surgery care, helping Delaware County residents access quality, community-based health care close to home. I’m glad to see this investment in our community and expanded access to important health care services for our residents.

Plan for Election Day!

As we approach the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, here are some key dates to remember:

Monday, Oct. 19 – Last day to register to vote.
Tuesday, Oct. 27– Last day to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot.
Tuesday, Nov. 3 – Election Day: Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Voters must be in line by 8 p.m. to cast their ballot. Mail-in and absentee ballots must be received by your county election office by 8 p.m.

PennDOT Innovation Challenge

PennDOT’s annual Innovations Challenge is now open. Use your problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to develop a solution that helps prevent over-height vehicles from striking bridges and tunnels.

The Pennsylvania Treasury has launched a new online Financial Education Hub, providing a centralized collection of resources to help you improve your financial literacy and make informed financial decisions.

The hub covers topics including budgeting, saving, retirement planning, digital assets and cryptocurrency, along with information about Treasury programs such as PA 529, Keystone Scholars, and PA ABLE. Resources are tailored to groups including students, teachers, active-duty military members, veterans, and older adults.
