Rep. Kenyatta calls for legislature to pass mental health legislation

HARRISBURG, Sept. 15 – September is Suicide Prevention Month, and State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., is calling on the Pennsylvania legislature to pass legislation addressing mental health and suicide prevention.

“Too many people are struggling with their mental health across the commonwealth, and I fear that we are not doing enough in the legislature to address it,” Kenyatta said. “We need to pass legislation and provide more resources to help those who are suffering with a mental health crisis.”

Kenyatta has introduced legislation -- called “Phillip’s Law” -- to address mental health in students.

In 2020, according to CDC data, Pennsylvania’s suicide rate was 12.6 per 100,000 people.
