HARRISBURG, Jan. 7 – Today state Rep. Keith Harris, D-Phila., took the oath of office in the state Capitol to officially begin the 2025-26 legislative session. The Pennsylvania General Assembly is constitutionally required to meet at noon on the first Tuesday of January every year, at which time it can officially start working on legislation and policies that impact the people of the commonwealth.
Harris, whose district includes the neighborhoods Strawberry Mansion, Brewerytown, Fairmount and surrounding areas, said he was honored to be representing his neighbors in Harrisburg.
“The swearing-in ceremony is exciting, but also humbling,” said Harris. “I am looking forward to the year ahead and representing my neighbors and communities. I will be a fierce advocate for them in Harrisburg and work to make sure our neighborhoods are getting the help they need to lift up the people and families that call them home.”
Harris said his priorities for the year ahead include addressing criminal justice, mental health, education, workers’ rights and housing.
His office can also help people with a variety of state-related services, including home heating assistance, children’s health insurance, prescription drug and Property Tax/Rent Rebate assistance. Residents can find out more by going to RepKeithHarris.com. Harris also has an office in Philadelphia where people can go for assistance, located at 2835 W. Girard Ave.
