Rep. Keith Harris partners with community to address concerning business

Harris acts over concerns about Girard Ave. business

PHILADELPHIA, March 19 – When community members brought their concerns about a questionable business set to open on Girard Avenue, state Rep. Keith Harris leapt into action, bringing the issue to the attention of Philadelphia’s Codes Office and organizing a community response.

“When people contacted my office with concerns about ‘Exotic Convenience’ we heard them loud and clear, and took them seriously,” Harris said. “We immediately contacted Philadelphia City Codes, contacted the local ward leader and started organizing a community response. In my discussion with people who live in the neighborhood, they have made it clear that they do not want this business in their community, and I support them in their decision. My office will continue to coordinate with the city and other local organizations to address this issue.”

Staff from Harris’s West Girard Avenue office have visited the block and talked to numerous businesses and individuals who call the corridor home to hear and address their concerns. Since taking office, Harris has been proactive in dealing with concerns like this across his district – whether it’s marshalling resources to clean up abandoned lots or raising safety concerns with PennDOT and local law enforcement.

“The people in my community know that my office is here for them, and we’ll keep working to make sure they have a voice when it comes to what happens in their community,” said Harris. “I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished and look forward to continuing to work with our community partners to make our neighborhoods strong, vibrant places where businesses and families can all thrive.”
