Harris applauds over $2.7 million in funding awards to local projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 – State Rep. Keith S. Harris, D-Phila., applauded the more than $2.7 million in state grant funding awarded today through the statewide Local Share Account program to various projects throughout the community.

“I am thrilled to see this substantial reinvestment of state tax dollars back into our commonwealth community,” Harris said. “And I look forward to the great things this grant funding will allow our community organizations to accomplish.”

Projects receiving funding include:

  • $800,000 to Philadelphia City for the Cecil B. Moore Library project, which will assist with increasing ADA access and replacing the HVAC system, among other things.
  • $60,000 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Benjamin Franklin Parkway Public Art Initiative: Digital Screens project, which will assist in the creation of a free, community-focused outdoor art experience.
  • $450,000 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Civic Engagement Center For Community Nonprofits project, which will be used for interior rehab and other needed property improvements for a complex of historical Victorian buildings that SGCDC owns at 1518-36 Brandywine St.
  • $280,807 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the CNC upgrade project, which will be used to purchase new CNC machining equipment and expand the working opportunities to their graduates.
  • $203,245 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Community Garden and Engagement project, which will be used for construction, purchase and installation of equipment, land acquisition, and materials costs and three vacant lots the organization hopes to purchase.
  • $450,000 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Eastern State Visitor Hospitality project, which will be used for the construction of permanent ADA-accessible bathrooms.
  • $450,000 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Fairmount Water Works Flood Mitigation project, which will be used to install flood mitigating amenities on the Water Works.
  • $98,048 to PIDC Financing Corp. for the Traveling Tree House Bookmobile project, which will be used for the purchase and upfitting of a bookmobile.

Statewide Local Share Account funding comes from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
