Pisciottano celebrates new law supporting local pharmacies

HARRISBURG, July 18 – After Gov. Josh Shapiro signed legislation (H.B. 1993) into law, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano, D-Allegheny, issued the following statement:

“Independently owned pharmacies in Allegheny County and across PA have been struggling to stay afloat. This law directly addresses concerns community pharmacy owners have expressed about pharmacy benefit managers and will help more small business owners keep their doors open.

“I want to thank my colleague state Representative Jessica Benham for leading the charge on this legislation. Corporate greed has driven up the cost of prescription drugs and made it nearly impossible for local pharmacies to survive. This is a critical milestone in making the marketplace competitive again and lowering the cost of prescription drugs.”
