Hill-Evans: Nearly $600,000 awarded for community projects under Crispus Attucks, York Habitat, York XL and others

YORK, March 19 – New funding of $594,610 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will support multiple community infrastructure and revitalization projects across the 95th Legislative District, state Rep. Carol Hill-Evans announced today.

“If you look at the variety of goals this funding will help organizations in our community achieve – creating welcoming spaces where youth can learn and socialize, allowing their staff to reach and assist people in every corner of the county – it’s clear the people of York are doing tremendous things out of love and compassion for their neighbors,” Hill-Evans said. “I’m happy the state sees the value in these projects, and that I get to help advocate on their behalf.”

The grants were awarded by the CFA via the Statewide Local Share Account, which distributes gaming revenue to support regional projects in the public interest.

The following grants were awarded in the 95th Legislative District:

  • CASA Inc.: $66,142 toward renovating its Welcome Center, including bringing it up to code, increasing energy efficiency, and enhancing accessibility by adding an elevator and other mobility improvements.

  • Combined Focus Films: $77,000 toward equipment for its youth center and sports facility under development to help youth in York develop skills in film production, photography, music production, clothing design and sports training.

  • Crispus Attucks Association of York: $65,000 for a 15-passenger van to shuttle participants to and from the Employment and Training Center and Senior Employment Program.

  • Cultural Alliance of York County: $5,264 for mobile computer equipment to allow staff to travel and provide services at sites across the county.

  • Junior Achievement of South Central PA: $25,499 to replace its outdated van used to transport materials for its programs for students in grades pre-K through 5th.

  • Neighborhood Moses: $27,395 to complete a study on establishing a training and community center on East Princess Street in York to offer hands-on training and mentorship for youth aged 10-17.

  • Penn Market: $50,000 toward renovating the historic building, including new mechanical systems, a new fire alarm and sprinkler system, and adding a community room.

  • Reid Menzer Memorial Skatepark: $50,000 toward the final stages of the park’s construction, including safety and electrical upgrades.

  • Shiloh Baptist Church of York: $87,000 to install a new energy-efficient HVAC system in the facility where it provides community services including food and clothing distribution, classes and recreation opportunities for children and families.

  • Victory Fire Company: $75,000 toward repaving its driveway, which has become a safety hazard due to its deteriorated condition.

  • York Habitat for Humanity: $25,000 toward a new heavy-duty pickup truck to aid in the construction of affordable homes for low-income families.

  • York XL Corp.: $42,310 to complete the development phase of the “Neighborhoods Built by Neighbors” project, which will construct small multifamily, mixed-use buildings in a currently vacant area in the northeast part of York to serve as a neighborhood focal point. The project is part of an effort to replace out-of-state landlords with rental housing owned and built by members of the community in which it’s located.

The York County Economic Alliance and York City Redevelopment Authority each assisted various organizations in applying for their grants.
