Hanbidge announces $295K for local trail projects

BLUE BELL, Feb. 24 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge today announced that Upper and Lower Gwynedd townships have been awarded nearly $300,000 in state grants to improve walking trails.

The funding will be distributed as follows:

Lower Gwynedd Township: $245,186 to develop a roughly half-mile walking trail to connect Penllyn Train Station to Pen-Ambler Park and the mixed-use development Ambler Yards.

Upper Gwynedd Township: $50,000 toward development of the Liberty Bell Trail to be located in Upper Gwynedd Township and Lansdale Borough.

“Expanding our region’s trail network is an investment in safety, accessibility and quality of life,” Hanbidge said. “These projects will create stronger connections between neighborhoods, parks and transit hubs, giving residents more options to walk, bike, and enjoy the outdoors. I’m proud to support efforts that make our communities more walkable and better connected.”

Funding for these projects was distributed through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. Grants awarded through this program may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
