Hanbidge announces multiple state grant awards for critical projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced the award of several high-profile state grants for local projects that will benefit residents of the 61st Legislative District.

The grants originate from the Statewide Local Share Account, which comes from the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They are:

  • Lower Gwynedd Township, Ingersoll Park Improvement Project, $704,424
  • The current park amenities include two Little League baseball fields, a small bullpen, and an old concession stand, storage building and limited parking. There are also no public utilities at the site. The park needs several ADA accessibilities upgrades in both the parking lot and general gathering areas. This project proposes to address the ADA issues including additional parking and seating areas, extending public utilities, and upgrading amenities, including ADA accessible restrooms that will enhance the park and provide better accessibility for people using the park.
  • Lower Gwynedd Township, Traffic Signal Modernization Improvement Project, $451,312
  • The proposed project will modernize the existing traffic signal and pedestrian accommodations at the intersection of Penllyn Pike and Trewellyn Avenue. These improvements will include vehicle detection technology, a new signal controller assembly, new traffic signal supports and signal heads, overhead street lighting, emergency pre-emption and battery back-up, pedestrian crossing signals and ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities.
  • North Penn Water Authority, Elevator, $100,000
  • This project includes the purchase and installation of an elevator to serve visitors and workers coming to North Penn Water Authority's Operations Center. The current elevator is obsolete. This purchase would provide improved access for all.
  • North Wales Borough, Public Works Vehicle & Equipment Modernization, $360,355
  • North Wales Borough plans to purchase a street sweeper, loader, two dump trucks and a pickup truck to replace aging vehicles currently in use that are all well past their lifecycles. As part of this project, they will also purchase a UTV and Skid Steer to conserve energy and be more efficient with smaller jobs.
  • Towamencin Municipal Authority, Skippack Creek Interceptor Replacement Project - Phase 2, $400,000
  • The proposed project will replace approximately 1,200 linear feet of asbestos pipe. The project will replace the pipe from where the SCI crosses under the Pennsylvania Turnpike to where it crosses Wambold Road. The Skippack Creek interceptor was recently deemed structurally unsafe due to the lessening of the hydraulic capacity and excessive inflow/infiltration issues. The completed project will provide replacement of the outdated pipe with new pipe, which will aid future development of industrial, retail and residential projects.
  • Towamencin Township, Grist Mill Park Phase 1 Improvements, $175,000
  • The township’s landscape architect recently prepared the Towamencin Township Parks and Trails Evaluation, that produced prioritized recommendations for the Township’s 13 parks. This project involves the first phase of an overall plan for improvements to Grist Mill Park. Project work consists of the construction of an inclusive playground; a new basketball court with striping, pickleball court, sand volleyball court, fencing, site amenities, parking improvements and plantings to include 10 shade trees.

"Investing in local municipal projects through grants offers tremendous benefits, enabling critical upgrades and improvements without adding financial pressure on local budgets,” Hanbidge said. “These funds help improve facilities, enhance public infrastructure and support essential community services, creating a better environment for all residents.

“Congratulations to the recipients and thank you for all of your tremendous work on behalf of our communities! I look forward to seeing these impactful projects come to fruition.”
