UPPER GWYNEDD, March 26 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced that Upper Gwynedd Township has been selected to receive a $306,229 transportation grant.
The funds will go toward relocating the Sumneytown Pike pedestrian bridge. Hanbidge said the bridge, which currently crosses Wissahickon Creek, will instead cross Towamencin Creek, where there is no pedestrian access. This relocation effort will facilitate the walkable connections between North Penn shopping mall, Wawa, Corpus Christi School and Church, and North Penn High School.
“This grant exemplifies our commitment to enhancing pedestrian infrastructure, ensuring that all members of our community can travel locally in a safe manner,” Hanbidge said. “Relocating the pedestrian bridge to an area that receives more foot traffic is a commonsense approach to improving public safety and reducing traffic congestion."
The funds come from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. The MTF provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.
