Hanbidge announces over $460,000 in grants awarded to improve local parks, watershed

HARRISBURG, Dec. 30 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced the awarding of over $460,000 in three separate grant awards earmarked to improve Grist Mill and Whites Road Parks along with the Wissahickon Creek Watershed.
These grants were awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Grant Program and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“Investing in and maintaining our public parks is an important initiative and one which adds to the value of our community,” Hanbidge said. “These grant dollars will go toward ensuring our beautiful local parks can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
A breakdown of the grants is as follows:
- Towamencin Township - Grist Mill Park - $250,000.
- Lansdale Borough - Whites Road Park - $122,800.
- Upper Gwynedd Township - Wissahickon Creek Watershed - $90,000.
The awards will be used to construct basketball, pickleball and volleyball courts at Grist Mill Park, along with a plaza, pavilion and comfort station at Whites Road Park. Both parks will be receiving pedestrian walkways and installation of playground equipment with required safety surfacing as a part of these projects. Additionally, ADA access, interpretive signage, fencing and utilities are also set to be expanded and improved with these grant dollars.
The Wissahickon Creek Watershed award will be utilized to prepare a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of approximately 2,300 feet of Haines Run.
