Community updates: Events, services, FAFSA deadline & more

Dear Neighbor,

It was another busy week in Harrisburg as we worked to pass several bills, including more legislation concerning data centers.

I’m at the Capitol for voting sessions every week this month, and I wanted to take a moment to share updates on some important legislation recently passed by the Pennsylvania House, as well as information about state programs, resources, and upcoming community events happening in our area.

Thank you for taking the time to stay connected. I hope you find the information useful, and as always, my team and I are here to help.

Pennsylvania State Rep. David M. Delloso

Office Announcements

As a reminder, my office will be closed Friday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

In addition, our satellite office at 713 Sharon Ave will have a scheduled lunch hour going forward. The office hours will still be 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a dedicated lunch hour from noon-1 p.m. The office may be closed at that hour to ensure that my staff can take a lunch break while also making sure that office hours are kept consiste

Upcoming Events

Next Month, my and Senator Tim Kearney’s offices will be hosting an event to help connect people with state services. If you have a state-related issue, or if you would just like to stop by and learn more about what the state has to offer, mark your calendars for 10 a.m. -noon Tuesday, July 14, and stop by Prospect Park Borough Hall at 720 Maryland Ave.

If you have children who’ve outgrown their storybooks, or if you pick up extra supplies while back to school shopping, feel free to drop them off the next time you’re in my district offices. All summer long, my offices are serving as a drop off spot for two local non-profits centered on childhood education.

Teacher’s Teammates collects new and gently used school and office supplies so teachers can keep their classrooms stocked throughout the year. Delco Book Bank collects children’s books and distributes them at community events to encourage kids and families to spend time reading. My district offices in Ridley Park and Darby Township are collecting for these organizations until Monday, Aug. 31.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, I’ll be hosting a Senior Resource Fair at Folcroft’s Community Center at 797 E. Ashland Ave. from noon-3 p.m. This event is free to attend and features information from county, state, and local organizations that want to share information on senior services. There will also be a special info session from the Attorney General’s Office about scam prevention, and the District Attorney’s Office is providing drug take-back services for unused or expired prescription medications to ensure they are safely disposed of. I hope to see you there!

News From Harrisburg

Here are some of the bills we recently passed in the House:

HB 1678 – This bill would establish a tax on digital advertising revenue generated by large technology companies, helping ensure that major corporations contribute their fair share to the Commonwealth. Revenue generated by the tax could be invested in public services such as public education, mass transit, housing, and infrastructure improvements, without increasing costs for working Pennsylvanians.

HB 836 – Passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support, this bill would protect access to fertility treatments and medically assisted reproduction for Pennsylvanians seeking to grow their families. Everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue family planning, and this legislation helps ensure individuals and couples can continue accessing the care they need to build the family they’ve hoped for.

HB 37 – This legislation would allow counties to begin pre-canvassing mail-in and absentee ballots before Election Day, helping election officials process ballots more efficiently and deliver results more quickly. By giving counties additional time to prepare ballots for counting, the legislation would help reduce delays in reporting election results while maintaining the security and integrity of Pennsylvania’s election.

HB 2550 - The Healthy Workers, Healthy Small Businesses Act would establish the Small Business Health Care Premiums Contribution Tax Credit. Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees that contribute to their workers’ health insurance plans purchased through the state’s exchange program – Pennie – would get a 100% state tax credit on every dollar the business contributes. This legislation would help make quality health care more affordable and accessible for working Pennsylvanians and their families.

Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in conjunction with the American Legion and my office, announced the installation of two courtesy veteran parking spots at each of our 17 turnpike service plazas.
