HARRISBURG, Dec. 7 – State Rep. Tina Davis announced $199,315 in Automated Red Light Enforcement funding has been awarded to replace all existing signal equipment at the Five Points Intersection of New Falls, Woodbourne, Edgely and Bristol Emilie roads in Bucks County.
“Red-light running threatens lives,” Davis, D-Bucks, said. “The ARLE program helps cut back on incidents of this dangerous driving behavior through automated enforcement at intersections where red light running has been an issue.
“Motorists and pedestrians alike will be safer thanks to the replacement of all existing signal equipment at the Five Points Intersection of New Falls, Woodbourne, Edgely and Bristol Emilie roads in Bucks County.”
The Bucks County safety projects were selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to receive ARLE funding based on criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact.
ARLE grant funding is supplied by fines from red light violations at 31 intersections in Philadelphia. State law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted 123 applications, totaling almost $39.5 million in requests. Sixteen projects in 13 municipalities were selected for funding.
This investment brings the total dollars awarded through the ARLE funding program to $99.79 million, funding 473 transportation enhancement projects since 2010.
