$50,000 state grant intended to beautify community, increase safety, economy
Rep. Morgan B. Cephas August 13, 2024 | 4:14 PM
PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 13 – State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., announced today that the Overbrook CDC has been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for the Overbrook Park Beautification Project.
The funds are intended to replace fixtures such as benches, walkways and trash receptacle covers, and add new lighting to boost economic activity and help reduce crime in the community.
Cephas advocated for the grant to enhance the quality of life in Overbrook Park. “Improving things like benches and trash cans may not seem like very much, but it means a great deal to the folks in communities like Overbrook Park who will now see bright, decorative street lights shine on the brand new pavers under their feet as they walk through their neighborhood. These amenities really enhance the day-to-day quality of life for our middle neighborhoods, which in turn increases economic activity and public safety. I’m proud to have helped connect the Overbrook CDC with this opportunity.”
The proposed budget for the project includes nearly half of the grant for new equipment, with the remainder assigned for installation and building modification, utilities and insurance. Overbrook Park is a West Philadelphia community located southwest of Haverford Avenue between City Avenue and Lansdowne Avenue.
