Rep. Cepeda-Freytiz announces $1.5 million grant for traffic improvements in Spring Township

READING, Aug. 27 – State Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz announced today a substantial grant of $1,525,000 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund to support a series of crucial traffic improvements at the intersection of Route 222, Broadcasting Road, N. Meridian Boulevard, and Paper Mill Road in Spring Township.

Cepeda-Freytiz said this funding will play a pivotal role in facilitating the construction of a new mixed-use development in the area.

“Investing in and improving our infrastructure is a commonsense way to spur economic development, create jobs, and help Pennsylvanians reach their destinations safely and efficiently,” Cepeda-Freytiz said. “The traffic improvements will not only ease congestion but also support the development of a vibrant mixed-use space that will benefit local residents and businesses. By enhancing our infrastructure, we are paving the way for economic growth and improved quality of life in Spring Township.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund is designed to enhance transportation infrastructure across Pennsylvania, aiming to improve communities, bolster pedestrian safety, and revitalize transit systems. This grant aligns with the program’s mission to support municipalities, economic development organizations, and public transportation entities.

Gov. Josh Shapiro emphasized the importance of such infrastructure investments, stating, “Infrastructure is critical to our Commonwealth’s progress, and our ability to complete major projects is key to spurring economic growth and creating real opportunities. These improvements will help our communities grow as we continue working together to move Pennsylvania forward.”

The funding will be used to enhance traffic flow and safety at this key intersection, supporting both current transportation needs and future development projects. Cepeda-Freytiz said she continues to advocate for projects that drive community progress and economic vitality.
