Hill-Evans announces $15M for Codorus Greenway Project

YORK, June 28 — The York County Economic Alliance will receive a $15 million grant to support the Codorus Greenway Project, which will create a waterfront trail along the Codorus Creek in York, state Rep. Carol Hill-Evans announced today.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation via funding from the RAISE 2024 program. Hill-Evans advocated on behalf of YCEA’s application.

“I’m so excited for this project to bring new recreation opportunities to our residents and visitors,” Hill-Evans said. “Tourism and beautification efforts in York continue to make our region shine even brighter, and I’m proud of all the individuals and organizations who are collaborating on projects like this.”

Hill-Evans said the project will create a pedestrian and bike path that connects to mass transit services through the York Transfer Center, and implement flood control infrastructure along the creek to support water quality goals for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed – all of which will create regional job opportunities. Hill-Evans was appointed to the Chesapeake Bay Commission in March 2023.

“This $15 million grant, added to the $26 million we’ve already secured, brings us to a total of $41 million in committed funding for the Codorus Greenway. This award propels this project forward and ensures we can return the waterfront to its natural park-like environs, providing public access through the beautification of the city’s primary natural resource,” said Kevin Schreiber, President and CEO, of the York County Economic Alliance. “This funding joins additional public funds, including $15 million in RACP, that we previously worked with Rep. Hill-Evans and former Governor Wolf to secure. The Codorus Greenway is among just four Pennsylvania projects to receive a RAISE grant this year, which the entire country competes for, and goes to show we can be very proud of our selection.”
