Apply for health insurance by Feb. 16

The open enrollment period for health care coverage is now underway. If you or someone you know is in need of health insurance, please consider visiting the federal Marketplace at www.HealthCare.gov. Applicants have until Feb. 16, 2015 to enroll.

Everyone, no matter what age, needs health insurance. A random accident or unexpected illness could put you in danger of losing not only your good health but also your financial future. Having health insurance is not just a good idea; it's a requirement under the federal Affordable Care Act.

If you are still on the fence about health insurance, consider these facts. More than four out of five people who already signed up for health insurance got help paying for it. You might qualify for free or low-cost coverage. Preventative care such as mammograms, pap tests, vaccinations and more are not only covered – they’re FREE.

Once insured you'll receive:

  • Free preventative care
  • Free vaccinations
  • Prescription-drug coverage
  • Mental health screenings and treatment
  • Emergency-room visits and hospitalizations
  • Maternity and infant care

You can see insurance plans and prices – and get covered – by visiting www.HealthCare.gov.

Additionally, Pennsylvania offers a new health insurance plan called Healthy PA that expands the state’s Medicaid program. There is no deadline to apply for enrollment. Visit http://www.healthypa.com for more information.

You can apply for coverage through the Medicaid or Private Coverage option either online at www.compass.state.pa.us, by phone at 1-866-550-4355 or at your local County Assistance Office.
