EBENSBURG, May 2 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced the award of a $43,144 state grant to Conemaugh Valley School District for purchase of a $43,144 double combination oven at its junior-senior high school.
Burns said the state Department of Education supplied the funding through its 2017 Food Service Equipment Grant program, which aims to help school districts purchase equipment to serve healthier meals that meet the updated meal patterns, improve food safety and expand access to food.
“I thank the Education Department for supplying this assistance to Conemaugh Valley, because it ultimately benefits the students who are served by the school’s cafeteria,” Burns said. “In addition to making meal preparation safer and more efficient, this new oven will help the district provide more up-to-date nutrition offerings.”
Burns said the grant program also emphasizes putting more fruits and vegetables in school meals.
