Burns makes pitch to televise AAABA games in 2015

JOHNSTOWN, Aug. 27 -- State Rep. Frank Burns has reached out to executives at ESPN, NBC Sports, ROOT Sports and the Pennsylvania Cable Network asking them to consider televising the All American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament next year.

Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, recently sent a letter to the national sports and other networks to tout the tournament, which has been held in Johnstown every August for nearly 70 years and hosts teams from different parts of the country.

"The AAABA tournament is one of our region’s greatest tourism assets; having the games televised will create a huge benefit to the local economy," said Burns, a member of the House Tourism and Recreation Committee. "It would be fantastic to see the games broadcast on a large scale."

The AAABA was created in 1946 to promote the advancement of amateur baseball. Since then, more than 400 players have advanced to Major League Baseball with five of them selected for the MLB Hall of Fame.
