Burns to host Veterans Appreciation Luncheon Aug. 24

HARRISBURG, Aug. 12 – State Rep. Frank Burns is inviting veterans to his annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon.

The luncheon will be held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Cresson Volunteer Fire Co., 223 Ashcroft Ave., Cresson. Lunch will be served throughout the three-hour period.

"It's important for me to reach out and thank veterans for their sacrifices and service to our country on our behalf, and this luncheon is just one small way I can do that," Burns said.

In addition to a free spaghetti meal, local organizations will let veterans know what services and programs are available to them and their families in the way of health care, education, job placement and more. Those attending include MountainCat Veteran Program from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Penn Highlands Community College, Military Affairs from St. Francis University, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and Veteran Community Initiatives Inc.

Burns and his staff also will be on hand to offer information about and assistance with programs benefiting veterans.

Veterans wishing to obtain a complimentary meal must show military identification. Each veteran may bring one guest. Veterans are asked to RSVP with Burns' office by Aug. 18 at 814-472-8021.
