Burns invites senior citizens to consumer protection seminar

HARRISBURG, July 30 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, is inviting senior citizens to attend a seminar he is hosting on utilities and telemarketing scams.

The seminar will be held at noon July 31 at the Patton Senior Center. The seminar also will be held next month at noon Aug. 27 in the Portage Senior Center.

"This seminar is designed to help address the concerns senior citizens have about utility companies, particularly in light of ElectricChoice and the skyrocketing electric rates from the brutal winter weather," Burns said. "We'll also offer ways they can protect themselves from the various telemarketing scams that are happening today. I think awareness and education are key."

Speakers at the seminar will include Christina Chase Pettis from the Public Utility Commission and Heather Yoder from the state's Office of Consumer Advocate.

To RSVP for either of the seminars, call Burns' office at 814-472-8021.
