Burns: Trout stocking schedules available in office

HARRISBURG, March 31 – Trout stocking schedules for Pennsylvania waterways are now available in the offices of state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset.

Trout season officially opens statewide at 8 a.m. April 12.

"These schedules will help you figure out what kind of trout will be stocked in the creek, river or stream that you fish," Burns said. "Overall, more than 3.9 million fish will be stocked in our waterways this year."

In addition to the Brook, Brown and Rainbow trout, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission plans to stock about 8,500 trophy Golden Rainbow trout that weigh an average of 1.5 pounds and measure at least 14 inches long.

Burns reminded anglers that fishing licenses are required for trout season. Information on fishing licenses is available at www.gonefishingpa.com.

The state is also expanding its new Mentored Youth Fishing Days program into a statewide program this year. The date has been set for May 10. More information on the mentored youth day and all other questions about fishing in Pennsylvania can be found at the Fish and Boat Commission website, www.fishandboat.com.
