State grants awarded for hazardous waste events in Cambria County

HARRISBURG, Sept. 26 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, announced that the Cambria County Solid Waste Authority and Pennsylvania Resources Council have been awarded a state Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant.

The grants will be used to reimburse the organizations for half of the costs incurred for developing and operating household hazardous waste collection events.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council will receive $11,308 for the household hazardous waste collection event at Concurrent Technologies Corp. in Johnstown on May 18.

Cambria County Solid Waste Authority will receive $1,405 for its collection events from July 1 through December 2012 at its facility.

The Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program was established under Act 190 of 1996, which authorized programs to collect and manage household hazardous waste. Most ongoing programs collect this waste once a year at drop-off sites, while others offer these services throughout the year.
