McAneny Brothers to receive grant to buy CNG fleet vehicles
Rep. Frank Burns August 14, 2013
HARRISBURG, Aug. 14 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, said that a Cambria County business has received one of the new, Natural Gas Vehicle grants awarded by the state.
McAneny Brothers Inc. of Ebensburg will receive $173,307 to purchase eight compressed natural gas vehicles to replace diesel fleet vehicles currently in use. The company also plans to install a CNG fueling station at its facility.
"McAneny Brothers is a family-owned food wholesaler, distributing their products to grocery and convenience stores throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio, so cleaner burning vehicles will help them deliver their products more cost-effectively while helping the environment," Burns said.
The grants from this program were first awarded in May, but Burns said McAneny Brothers is now benefiting from a grant from this program because the company that received one of the initial awards was not able to begin its project in time.
The Natural Gas Vehicle grants are part of a new Natural Gas Energy Development Program administered by the Department of Environmental Protection. Through the program, $20 million in grants will be made available on a competitive basis over the next three years for purchasing or converting eligible vehicles to natural gas.
The second round of grants, an available $11 million for heavy-duty vehicles, will open this fall. The final round will open in 2014.
