Cambria County to receive nearly $38,000 state grant

HARRISBURG, June 10 – State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria/Somerset, announced today that Cambria County will receive $37,998 from the state to help with its recycling efforts.

The grant, funded through the state Department of Environmental Protection's County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program, will be used to reimburse half of the county's recycling coordinator's salary and expenses.

"This funding will help to defray the costs of employing a county recycling coordinator," Burns said. "Recycling is an important part of keeping our environment healthy by reducing waste in our landfills, so this is a wise investment for our future."

Recycling programs are financed by a $2-per-ton recycling fee on all waste (except ash) disposed of in landfills or processed by resource recovery facilities in Pennsylvania. Besides grants for local recycling, planning and environmental protection programs, funding subsidizes state programs for recycling market development, public education, technical assistance and grants administration.
