Burns: Admiral Peary AVTS, Greater Johnstown School District and CTC each awarded $85,000 state grant

HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – Admiral Peary Area Vocational Technical School, and Greater Johnstown School District and its Career and Technical Center each has been awarded a $85,000 state grant, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced.

The competitive grants, three of 55 awarded to technical centers in Pennsylvania Wednesday, is part of a program to help technical schools and career centers purchase equipment for high-demand careers.

“Having access to the latest equipment used in technical fields is vitally important when it comes to preparing youth to enter those fields,” Burns said. “These grants are designed to make sure our students are using the same equipment as their industry peers so they can hit the ground running.”

Over the last several years, the state has invested heavily in career and technical centers and other jobs programs, expanded apprenticeships that provide an income during training and realigned workforce development programs to prepare students to enter the workforce.

As a legislator, Burns has supported these investments locally and worked at the state level to improve Cambria County and Pennsylvania’s economic competitiveness by authoring and supporting legislation to help industries and small businesses, improve transportation connections, and lower taxes through things like the Keystone Opportunity Zone he brought to the area.
