Bipartisan legislation expedites payments from annual program
Rep. Frank Burns May 19, 2020 | 12:44 PM
HARRISBURG, May 19 – Seniors in Cambria County will not have to wait for their annual property tax/rent rebate payments thanks to a new law supported by state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, which directs the state to quickly make rebate payments during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
“I know that many of our older neighbors on fixed incomes rely on these annual payments, which is why I backed this bill and fought for its passage,” Burns said. “As long as I’m a state representative our seniors will not be forgotten, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure their voices are heard in Harrisburg.”
House Bill 1076, which was signed into law today as Act 20, directs the departments of Revenue and Treasury to begin making payments immediately to all approved homeowners and renters. Burns urged qualifying seniors to apply or to go online to check the status of their claim.
Act 20 also authorizes school districts to set up programs in which senior citizens can volunteer in their school district and receive a partial credit against their school property tax in exchange for their services.
