Burns: New grant opportunities available with upcoming deadlines

EBENSBURG, Sept. 10 – Municipalities and organizations should consider several competitive state grant programs with open application windows that are closing later this month and into October, said state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria.

 

“If you think you may be eligible, I strongly encourage you to apply,” Burns said. “I have consistently touted these grant opportunities as a good way to have more of your tax dollars returned to our communities.”

For some time, Burns has made a priority of informing and encouraging government, nonprofit and other eligible entities to apply for available grants – and has offered the assistance of Brittany Blackham, his own in-house grant writer.

 

Burns said she can be reached in his Portage office at 814-736-7339 to provide information or help with the following grant applications:

 

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation: Capital Assistance Section 5310 Program Transit Grants

Eligibility: Nonprofits and governmental authorities approved by the state to coordinate services for seniors and individuals with disabilities, such as county transit authorities and shared-ride programs.

Use: To purchase new wheelchair accessible small transit vehicles.

Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency: 2019 County Jail-Based Medication Assisted Treatment

Eligibility: All counties on behalf of county jails and work release centers.

Use: To establish or expand a jail-based substance abuse treatment program. Priority given to non-Vivitrol treatment programs.

Funds: PCCD expects to fund 12 projects with budgets not to exceed $150,000.

Application Deadline: October 4

Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency: 2019 Substance Abuse Education and Demand Reduction – Adult Focus

Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits may jointly apply or partner with a government or school district, but direct awards cannot be made to government entities.

Use: To provide research-based or evidence-based approaches to prevention, intervention, training, treatment and education services to adults and their families to combat opioid/heroin overdoses.

Funds: PCCD will accept applications for two-year grants with budgets not to exceed $50,000 over two years. There are no match requirements.

Application Deadline: October 7

Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency: Community Revitalization Fund – Mixed-Use Development Project RFP

Eligibility: Municipalities (including counties), redevelopment authorities, for-profit entities, nonprofits, economic development organization, and neighborhood/downtown/business improvement districts. Third class cities will receive priority this year.

Use: New construction or rehabilitation of mixed-use development projects, which combine residential and retail/commercial space in the same building.

Funds: Minimal funding request is $500,000 to a maximum of $1 million.

Application Deadline: October 18
