Burns announces $119,000 in local school safety grants

EBENSBURG, Oct. 4 – State Rep. Frank Burns today announced that multiple schools in Cambria County were awarded state grants aimed at improving safety in schools.
“This funding will help ensure our schools are safe places where children can learn,” Burns said. “Protecting our children should be our top priority, and I am pleased to see many of our local schools benefiting from this funding.”
The grants awarded to Cambria County schools include:
· Conemaugh Valley School District - $19,250 equipment grant
· Penn Cambria School District - $10,875 programming grant
· Cambria Heights School District - $40,000 school police officer grant (2018-19)
· Holy Name School - $29,120 school police officer grant (2018-19)
· Central Cambria School District - $20,000 school police officer grant (2017-18)
The Safe Schools Targeted Grant program, awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, assists schools in promoting an environment of productivity, safety and learning, as well as highlighting and promoting antiviolence efforts between schools, parents, and law enforcement and officials. This grant program is separate from the new $60 million School Safety and Security Grant program created this year and administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The deadline for schools to apply for those grants is Oct. 12.
