Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, and members of the House Democratic Policy committee held a meeting in Erie to discuss policies that would enhance innovation and spur new business development with the goal of employing more people and keeping human capital in Pennsylvania. State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, has been appointed to serve on the 17-member Pennsylvania Grade Crude Development Advisory Council by House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, D-Allegheny. Bizzarro said the council will examine and make recommendations regarding existing technical regulations and policies for oil and gas implemented by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. “I consider it a great honor to serve on this council because I have an interest in the way oil and gas are not only extracted but distributed here in Pennsylvania,” Bizzarro said. “I look forward to working with the secretary of DEP on new policies that would impact the conventional oil and gas industry.” The council will also provide institutional support for the conventional oil and gas industry, develop a plan to increase grade crude oil production in an environmentally friendly way, develop a joint working group to develop ways to provide viable production water management options, and annually issue a report of its activities and recommendations. Bizzarro said the council will review the regulatory framework for environmental oversight and enforcement regarding the oil and gas industry. The next council meeting is scheduled for May. The council is comprised of state elected officials and representatives from the oil and gas industry. Bizzarro is vice-chairman of the House Northwest Caucus Delegation. Read more

State Reps. Ryan Bizzarro and Pat Harkins, both D-Erie, have co-sponsored legislation ( H.B. 34 ), that would restore the full $57.5 million to reopen unemployment call centers and bring back all furloughed jobs. “People need their unemployment benefits to pay the mortgage, buy food and just to survive,” Bizzarro said. “Every day I am hearing from frustrated constituents who are spending upwards of six weeks, calling hundreds of times trying to get through to the call centers. The call center situation needs to be fixed fast because these people need their money.” "This has been a devastating problem for the entire state, affecting people in Erie and everywhere ,” Harkins said. “Our unemployed, who need the financial assistance to get by, are struggling to get their claims processed in a timely manner. We need to fix this immediately.” Bizzarro said House Labor and Industry and Appropriations committee hearings are scheduled. “How long can the state continue to operate under these circumstances by literally stringing along claimants?” Bizzarro said.
