Bizzarro announces $209K grant for Millcreek Township
Project to improve pedestrian safety enroute to schools and parks

ERIE, Sept. 15 – The state will fund a $209,204 project in Millcreek Township to improve pedestrian safety while connecting sections of the community to popular public spaces and schools, state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro announced.
“This investment ensures it will be safer and easier for students, families, citizens and visitors to get where they need to go,” said Bizzarro, who represents Millcreek and Fairview townships. “This project will close a critical gap, connecting people with popular destinations in our neighborhoods, including local parks, schools and Presque Isle State Park. This is the type of investment that strengthens our communities, protects public safety and helps connect people with popular shared public spaces.”
As part of the $209,204 project, Millcreek Township has been approved to construct new sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps along West Sixth Street, eliminating a sidewalk gap and providing safe pedestrian access to two elementary schools, Presque Isle State Park and two local parks, Avalon and Scott. The project will install 5-foot-wide sidewalks from Wyngate Road to Peninsula Drive and along the east side of Peninsula Drive from West Sixth Street to West Eighth Street.
This is the next phase in the township’s effort to improve pedestrian safety and access to Presque Isle State Park, which draws about 4 million visitors a year. Today’s announcement follows a $331,695 state grant from October 2024 that allowed for the construction of sidewalks on both sides of West Sixth Street.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority voted to approve the pedestrian project to improve accessibility and safety. The state funds used for this project are provided through the Local Share Account, falling under the account’s guidelines for projects that improve the quality of life for residents in the community and serve the public interest.
The announcement continues Bizzarro’s pursuit of state investments for local projects. Bizzarro has helped secure more than $63.2 million in state funding this legislative session for projects and services that help people throughout the Erie region.
