Bizzarro: Fairview, Millcreek projects land $900K in grants

Money will be used to install new sidewalks, ramps and sewer lines

ERIE, Oct. 22 – Money to help improve safe access to Presque Isle State Park is part of a trio of state grants totaling nearly $900,000 announced this afternoon by Rep. Ryan Bizzarro.

Millcreek Township was awarded $331,695 to construct new sidewalks and ADA compliant ramps on West 6th Street as part of an overall project to expand safe access for people walking around the entrance to Presque Isle State Park. This builds on previous state and local investments in the Presque Isle Gateway plan to draw more people to the wildly popular destination.

“Presque Isle is a major driver of our regional economy, and making it easier for people to enjoy it means more money spent in our local small businesses,” Bizzarro said. “It also makes it safer for people to walk or use mobility chairs in the area – I’m glad to see this money improve our community for everyone.”

Also awarded grant money today is Fairview Township, with $500,000 to lay new sewer lines for dozens of homes in the Maple Street, Royann Drive, Faircrest Drive, Willard Drive, Linda Avenue, Glenn Avenue, and Don Avenue area. The township also received $63,950 for a robotic mower that will be used to safely mow steep slopes along ponds, eliminating the need for people to do potentially dangerous work with heavy equipment.

“Sewer lines are an underappreciated asset, and most people don’t think of them until something goes wrong,” Bizzarro said. “I’m committed to making sure we have strong state support for our local infrastructure, even for the things we don’t see every day, so they serve us well into the future.”

The funds were awarded through Pennsylvania’s Department of Economic Development using money from the Local Share Account, which distributes money generated by gaming.

Today’s announcement continues Bizzarro’s efforts to allocate state money to properly fund Erie schools, workforce development, nonprofits, first responders, public works, utilities and local businesses in his district and Erie County. During the 2023-24 legislative session, Bizzarro has helped secure more than $69 million in funding for Erie County projects.
