Rep. Bizzarro: Grant connects Edinboro business district, university

Pedestrian upgrades will improve safety, walkability

ERIE, April 20 – State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, today announced a total of $420,000 has been awarded to Edinboro to improve the pedestrian connection between the downtown business district and Edinboro University.

Using federal money from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the grant money will be used to build 2,150 feet of sidewalk from the edge of the business district along Rt. 6N to the University entrance. When complete, the sidewalk will improve safety for people of all abilities, allowing for better two-way access to places like the post office.

“Making it easier for people to walk to downtown Edinboro and visit the small businesses is a great use of this money,” Bizzarro said. “Putting infrastructure money directly into communities is what that bill was designed to do, and I’m glad to see PennDOT moving quickly to get the money distributed and projects started.”

The project was approved by Gov. Tom Wolf and the state Transportation Department through a designated program that provides funding for transportation alternatives, including pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, community improvement activities, and more.

“This is just a start of building back, better here in Erie County,” Bizzarro said. “At the local, state and federal levels, we are working to improve our communities for everyone.”
