Rep. Bizzarro: Crime reduction efforts bolstered by $220,000

Grant monies to be used in crime reduction, prevention efforts

ERIE, March 9 – State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, today announced a total of $221,836 has been awarded to local agencies to be used in crime prevention efforts in the Erie area.

“Reducing crime is always the goal, but this money is enabling police and others to try and prevent some of it from happening in the first place,” Bizzarro said.

Federal dollars granted though the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency were approved this morning, with three grants coming to Erie County. They include:

  • $102,854 to the Erie Police Department to continue funding an intelligence analyst, the second year for the position that is tasked with assisting in crime prevention and reduction.
  • $54,759 to the Erie Police Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program, working to reduce violent crime using research-based efforts including community engagement, intervention and prevention.
  • $64,223 to the Greater Erie Community Action Committee for the Erie County Reentry Services and Support Alliance to help fund a coordinator who can support people moving from incarceration back to the community. This position helps people with resume development, finding a job and connecting them with services.

“GECAC and Erie Police do wonderful work, and I’m glad to see additional funding come their way to continue their efforts to improve our community,” Bizzarro said. “I’ll continue to work in Harrisburg to keep more funding like this coming to our area.”
